IPSWICH, MA — The community of Ipswich is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 28-year-old Charlie Robitaille, who passed away on July 27 following traumatic injuries sustained during a tragic accident near Steep Hill Beach. The incident occurred during a playful dive into the ocean, which turned fatal despite the swift actions of friends and bystanders who immediately called for medical assistance.

Charlie fought courageously in the hospital, surrounded by those who loved him most—his mother, Elizabeth; father, Denis; his brother Luc and Luc’s fiancée, Kate. At his side also stood his beloved girlfriend, Nadia, and her parents, Scott and Niki, who had embraced Charlie as part of their family.

A proud graduate of St. John’s Prep and later Syracuse University (Class of 2019), Charlie was known for forging deep and lasting friendships throughout his academic journey. He channeled his natural charisma and sharp intellect into a blossoming career in technical sales.

Charlie and Nadia were preparing to embark on the next chapter of their lives together in San Francisco, with a cross-country move scheduled for the very day of his passing.

Though just 28 years old, Charlie lived with a zest and presence that left a lasting impression on everyone he met. His energy was magnetic—he lit up every room, made fast friends of strangers, and bridged gaps between generations and walks of life. Whether with a busboy or a bartender, a grandparent or a child, Charlie had a way of making people feel seen, heard, and valued.

Raised in Ipswich, Charlie cherished returning to his family’s home on Great Neck whenever possible. A true waterman at heart, he loved being on the ocean—especially behind the helm of a boat. Yet more than any pastime, he treasured the time he spent with his family, friends, and especially Nadia, whom he regarded as the greatest gift in his life.

He shared an extraordinary bond with his brother Luc, and was overjoyed to serve as best man at Luc and Kate’s upcoming wedding.

Charlie sought out adventure, and adventure often found him. Known for his infectious humor and joyful spirit, he was also deeply thoughtful—contemplative about life’s meaning and everyone’s place in it. His charm was undeniable, and he gave generously of his time, love, and laughter.

Though his life was tragically cut short, Charlie’s memory lives on in the countless lives he touched. To many, he was not just a friend, but a best friend. His loss is profoundly felt, but his legacy of joy, compassion, and connection will endure.

The Robitaille family has announced plans for a private memorial and a future celebration of Charlie’s extraordinary life. Details will be shared at a later date.
