BRECKINRIDGE COUNTY, KY — A devastating collision on Saturday evening has claimed the lives of three people, including a one-year-old child, in Breckinridge County. The crash occurred around 5:10 p.m. in the 13000 block of Hardinsburg Road (KY Hwy 261), roughly eight miles west of McQuady, according to Kentucky State Police.
Investigators say 48-year-old Joseph Maynard of Owensboro was driving a Ford F-150 southbound when he crossed the center line and struck a northbound Chevrolet Silverado head-on. Both vehicles were quickly engulfed in flames following the impact.
Tragically, the driver of the Silverado, 22-year-old Hunter Lyons of Custer, and his one-year-old daughter, Oakleigh Lyons, were pronounced dead at the scene alongside Maynard, according to the Breckinridge County Coroner’s Office.
Hunter’s wife, Macey Lyons, who was also in the Silverado, was airlifted to the University of Louisville Hospital burn unit. Authorities said she sustained non-life-threatening injuries, but remains hospitalized.
The crash closed the impacted section of Hardinsburg Road for several hours as troopers conducted a full reconstruction of the incident. Kentucky State Police were assisted on scene by the Breckinridge County Sheriff’s Office, EMS, and fire departments from Hardinsburg and Fordsville.
The investigation is ongoing and is being led by KSP accident reconstructionist Trooper John Goldsborough.
In the wake of the tragedy, friends and family have taken to social media to express their heartbreak and support for Macey Lyons as she recovers from the unimaginable loss.
“May everyone keep my best friend Macey Lyons in their thoughts and prayers as she’s going through the hardest moments of her life,” one emotional Facebook post read. “Her husband Hunter Lyons and her sweet angel of a daughter are now walking with our Savior Jesus Christ, as they are no longer hurting or suffering.”
The post continued, recalling the couple’s recent wedding just a week prior: “I’ve known these two since they laid eyes on each other. It shattered me when I figured out it was them… She is now in the hospital fighting for her life with Jesus watching over her. I love y’all so much and hate that this has happened to the kindest, most caring person I know.”
Authorities urge anyone who witnessed the crash or may have relevant information to contact Kentucky State Police as the investigation continues.
